First Time in Public in My Kilt
Well, three of my buddies and I wore our kilts to Sunday worship today. We range in age from 32 to 73, with me falling about in the middle age-wise.
It was my first time wearing a kilt in a public setting. I offer these observations:
1. It takes a lot longer to get dressed that the usual suit and tie.
2. I was much more aware of the blowing wind than usual.
3. I realized that I have a habit of lightly toughing my wallet in my rear pants pocket when I stand up after being seated for a while. Everything that was in a pocket is now in a sporran.
4. I have attended this congregation for about 5 months, and met more new people today than I did the first month that I was here. Most of them were married women who wanted me to help talk their husbands into getting kilts.
5. A nice lady requested a picture of our group when we were outside headed out. She promised to send it to us via email, which I will post here if received.
I have a Prince Charlie on order, so today was just kilt (Dress Gordon), belt, sporran, hose, flashes, black wingtips, white shirt and tie.

I'm glad you had a good first time kilted in public. I don't find it takes longer to get dressed when wearing a kilt rather than a suit.
When wearing a suit I put on my pants, shirt, tie, socks, shoes then jacket.
When wearing a kilt I put on shirt, hose, garters/flashes, shoes, kilt, then waistcoat and jacket.
The first time I wore a kilt (sport kilt) I put on the kilt then tried to tuck my shirt into my kilt. That was funny.
I'm looking forward to seeing your picture.

It is always good when the first public outing is a positive experience. And it will get even better from now on.

Congrats on your first public showing.
I dint feel thats any harder really. Yes the wind I tend to hold my hands at the sides. Im feelin kinda left out. After 1 year bein kilted I have yet to be asked for a photo op or a under kilt check. I must not be doin it right.
I thought about a PC but opted for a argyll jacket/vest since thats equivalent to a suit & havent had a need for formal attire.

Congratulations, glad it all went well.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Thanks for the replies and encouragement.
I suspect that it took me longer to get ready because I had to get into the new routine. The sporran height adjustment took me awhile to get right, and it took me a few adjustments to get the kilt height to where I thought it should be. I also had to tie my necktie twice, as I usually wear it longer with a suit than with a kilt.
All in all it was a positive experience.

Glad you had a great experience today! It certainly helps to go out and about with friends, that will be certain to help your confidence. As for getting ready, all will fall into place soon enough with practice at kilt wearing.

Good for you!
I'm glad you had a good experience at church.
I've worn a kilt to church for about the last 4 years. Now the regulars ask me where it is on the rare occasion I don't!
I've had the opportunity to meet and talk to so many people that otherwise I never would have while wearing a kilt.
Best wishes,
Tom

Glad your debut went well and was well received. Soon you will reach back to check the fall of your pleats as habit and to make sure the wind doesnt rustle your kilt. Some habits just change and evolve. When you sweep your kilt to sit and realize you have pants on you know you have been wearing a kilt for a bit of time.

Unless your place of worship is pretty formal formal, I would say you were dressed just fine for a young man at Sunday worship. Good on ya! And welcome!
