What's really standing out for me is that if you've read the books you'll remember that Claire hates wearing stays which she is obviously wearing in that photo.
Tis a fine tartan as well!

I'll try to catch the series as my fiance has Starz. I don't intend to read the books as it made me sort of ill for all the tripped-over etiquette to read D. K. Broster's "The Jacobite Trilogy" a few years ago.

I had to laugh, because I too pictured Jason Isaacs in my mind the entire time.. lol
Guys, for those of yall put off by the "romance" aspect of this book, DON'T be.. Is there romance in it?? Yes, but hell, so does "Game of Thrones", The Star Wars Sega, ect.. Any woman who has read this series and says its a "romance" missed the big picture. It goes way beyond bodice ripping, badly described sex scenes every so many pages, and happily ever after..
As for the kilt, I'm not a tartan expert by any means.. i can't recognized much of any to be honest with exception of a very few.. Is it possible its some for of a Mackenzie tartan?? While Jamie is a Frazier, he owes fealty to his uncle who is a Mackenzie.

No it's not. The tartan Jamie is wearing in the photo is lacking the brown line in the grey squares, the brown line bounding the grey squares and the thin vertical and horizontal stripe is one colour while the Mackay is two colours.
Remember, this is pre-Culloden. The tartans linked are not old enough to be used for Outlander. Using the info from the Tartan Authority, a Fraser tartan can be dated pre-Culloden and it looks nothing like what's been linked. The other's linked don't seem to be older than 1790. Perhaps Peter might venture an opinion if he sees this thread.

Here is a link to some interviews with the stars. [URL="http://www.accesshollywood.com/outlander-sam-heughan-talks-kilts-diana-gabaldon-confirms-cameo-in-starz-series_article_88650"]
Mr. Heughan seems to be confused about the length of a great kilt. "Seven or eight feet" of cloth? Even at double the usual 30" wide, that's not enough to wrap around oneself like a sleeping bag.

Maybe he meant yards instead of feet?
