No, swords are not regulated, nor have I ever heard of any sort of license. Some individual municipalities may have local regs that I'm unaware of.
The only folks I've ever heard of having their swords confiscated, or otherwise paid attention to, are criminals being arrested for some other violation. The cops generally scoop up all found weapons in such a scenario....

Renaissance fairs, SCA fairs, and for clan marches, I would bet.
Renaissance Fairs, Highland Re-enactor events, Oakland Raider Football Games
What they said (except for football games).

And swords are not regulated in Arizona. I can carry it anywhere I like.

Isn't it that in Arizona you can carry it anywhere you like as long as the sword is visible? Guess you can't hide the sword in your pants. LOL LOL LOL Sorry again.

In general in the US there is no state regulations of any kind regarding edged weapons except for carrying them concealed, and certain municipalities have restrictions. Some state codes do classify things by blade length in terms of defining what they are.

So far as I know, there is no "license" to be had anywhere, of any kind, in the USA for a sword. Concealed carry permits are firearms only kind of things, and will not cover a concealed blade, at least in Iowa. Other places may vary.

Mostly it is up to the discretion of the officer on the scene who is responding to any sort of complaint that may have been called in what happens. The attitude and demeanor of the individual will play a HUGE role in that. Be nice, be polite, be civil, be reasonable. If at an event where such things are expected, it is no problem, usually. Walking down the main street wearing a sword could get you some unwanted attention, but there again, it is going to depend a great deal on your attitude and demeanor.

Raiders could use a broadsword or two...

Over in New Mexico a couple years ago a drug crazed guy hacked up a friend of mine's brother with a sword, killed him.

I've seen the piper piping in the haggis preceded by someone with a basket-hilt before; a nice additional touch to Burn's Night theater.

I've seen a variant of this where the Haggis is escorted by 2-4 gents with broadswords.

When I put together a haggis procession we usually have the Piper, Haggis Bearer, Whisky Bearer and 2 - 4 guards with swords. They are their to protect against the exciseman. The first I came across this "full" procession was at the St. Andrew's Society in NY and I thought it made for great theatre so I have incorporated it whenever possible when I do an "Address".

i think what i meant by the license is a permit to carry it concealed. i guess you dont need one after all.
