Actually I don't know his age.
However, since my father, grandfather, etc back to the revolution served and every male in my generation, post WWII, served in my family, both my children served, daughter in USAF at Landsstuhl, son two tours in Iraq, one as platoon leader of 1-13 armor and 1 as sniper-scout unit captain, I retract my last, " Just Kidding" and say instead, "Go for it."

Armed Forces Kilt
After 9-11 many people throughout the US were sporting NYFD & NYPD t-shirts who were not firefighters or in law enforcement. I ran the Marine Corps Marathon and occasionally wear one of the two long sleeved shirts and both have the Globe and Anchor. I wear it for my accomplishment and as an ambassador to the Marine Corps, many USMC vets and active duty members have commented on my shirts; I do not use them to wash my car. I even made it a point to my former wife that she never earned the right to wear certain t-shirts of mine; it is about pride and respect.
I will retire from the Army in 1yr 8 months and change and will be wearing the Army tartan for an upcoming ball, it is always better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission, and that is why I will not tell my Sergeant Major what I am wearing.

Well, depending on how they have stated the required dress your SGM may not have any room to fuss much. SGM always got to say something. A year and 8 months, what they gonna do, keep you? I say go for it. The last few I've been to the flyers said Dress Blue and Army Green uniform with bow tie or appropriate civilian attire. I wore the Blues but if I'd had the proper jacket to go with the kilt I know what I'd of worn.

Exactly, with that much time in, you about have to commit a major felony for them to do anything significant to you.

Just pray for my younger brother an 11B
Unfortunately, the DOD can extend a service member’s contract for an additional year past retirement depending on the current global situation. I guess that all depends on how this election goes. I do know that due to my current special assignment, one that I cannot discuss in this forum has me stabilized until my retirement and non-deployable. I did the first Gulf War, and a part of me wants to go over there to do my part, but this is not a political forum. Just pray for my younger brother an 11B in the 25th Infantry Division Stryker Brigade, he needs all the help he can use.

Veteran's comment
As a U.S.A.F. veteran of the Vietnam conflict. I say anyone who wishes to wear any "military" Tartan should wear it. Very few are worn by active duty services, and as such are not the official uniform. Locally a popular band here wears the Leatherneck Tartan to specifically honor the service of The U.S.M.C. The group is "The Pipes of Bunker Hill" from Charlestown (section of Boston), Massachusetts. They make it a point to explain the kilts at every performance along with some very respectable bagpipe version of the Marines Hymm at the end of most live shows. None of the band members claims in any way to be a Marine. They donate some concert proceeds to Marine charities. Now you have heard it from the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. Go for it.

The Gordon Tartan you mention is Modern Gordon, which is not military per se.

I say wear Air Force! GO USAF! Actually, the Leatherneck is really nice (looking and available). Go for it! I wouldn't wear other branches, since I'm in the Air Force, but if I weren't, I'd consider it.
