Fantastic jacket and waist coat. I know how to make a kilt, but a jacket and waist coat is way out of my league.

Good to see tweed being used in Highland Dress.
There has been a fascinating series about Harris Tweed on the BBC over here and nobody raised the idea of using it for this purpose.

Thanks again to all the kind comments posted. It means a lot to me, as I have a never ending habit of relentless self-criticism over the work I do.

Wow. That looks really good!
Hmmm. Why is it I never thought of checking eBay for coat-weight woolen? My local fabric store carries an extremely limited selection in completely unappetizing colours. They're also 60% polyester.
Good work!

I made the jacket from Simplicity pattern #5029, and the waistcoat from McCall's pattern #2447.
Like when you buy a jar of storebought pizza sauce, you have to "doctor it up" to make it really edible. I did some alterations to both patterns to come up with the end result.

Could you explain what you did to "doctor it up"?
I have the Simplicity pattern, a different vest pattern and was about to start on my own jacket and vest when I saw your post.
I noticed the different epaulets and possibly the cuffs were different, but I can't be sure.
BTW. you should see how the Simplicity pattern says to make the kilt.
