Thanks, Josh,
By the way, I'll bet some diced hose would look good with that Davidson kilt.
Some take the high road and some take the low road. Who's in the gutter? MacLowlife

Red, or may also be termed as scarlet, tartan red, or brick red, is a superb choice for a waistcoat to be worn with the kilt, however, I tend to restrict this colour for evening or formal occasions. I currently own a 3-button waistcoat made of scarlet worsted wool, to be worn with my regulation doublet for the evening. With regards to the evening, tartan hose in the Clan Dhai sett would be most appropriate, just as cath dath, or red and white/red and black diced hose would work just as well. For day wear, solid red hose perhaps with some sort of dicing on the turnover would look quite smart. I suggest the Bowmore hose from The House of Cheviot, in brick red. Cheers!

Acquired this from eBay, earlier this year. £5 plus £3 postage. Four pockets and six gilt buttons, the seller said that the fabric is 'Melton'. It is like a very thick felt.

Regards
Chas

Kyle, don't you have a photo on here somewhere of yourself in said scarlet waistcoat?
After returning from my absence I missed your postings. It's nice to see you posting again my friend.

Chas, from your photo and desription of your lovely waistcoat, I would hazard a guess that the fabric maybe what is referred to as "doeskin". Congratulations on the great buy, it looks great

I have a 'muted red' vest that I wear with both this "tweed" outfit and with many muted / weathered tartans with red in them:

That's a good look Rocky. The red vest really makes the red line in the tweed pop!
