I have never heard of tulip wood. Tulips are flowers, right? What's going on here?
Tulip poplars are trees that grow very tall and sport yelllow-orange blooms on the topmost canopy. They are hard to see but often get knocked down during a storm in the Spring. The flowers are beautiful but actually look more like daffodils set in a tulip.

The pens and woods are gorgeous! What a wonderful hobby. Makes me want to polish and stain pieces of wood for the beauty of the grains. Maybe I could make some neckerchief slides for scouts.

When I started this thread I thought I might see more than just woodworking as a hobby.

This thread started with some excellent examples of wood working skills and it's just natural that people would want to show off their handiwork in the same vein. I don't have the skills to produce that kind of workmanship; but if you want a house/garage/shed built.... call me.

I don't know if you would consider them hobbies... more like relaxation/rejuvenation activities.

I camp in the tiny trailer that I built myself.

    I geocache.

As far as actually producing anything tangible (?)....
I play around a lot with computer graphics programs just for fun. Photoshop, Poser, Sketchup. Just for relaxation and to try to develop my artistic abilities.

Haven't finished any projects yet; but just started basic leatherworking. Going to attend a leather carving class in two weeks to try to learn what I am doing. Eventually want to tackle making my own sporrans and knife sheaths.

This pen is a beauty. My parents got a pen for me made from an olive tree from Bethlehem. A guy my dad works with made it. Your pens are great. I really like the fact that some of the wood came from your property, that makes them even more special.
