I am finding the same issue with my utility kilt. I gained weight during my wife's health issue period and the result (for me) is that the under apron corner juts below the front apron as I slip the buckles to the far hole. I expect the kilt was mislabeled for size range rather than the construction. My choices are lose weight or replace the kilt. You may find this is your issue also.
