Last Thursday I was a judge for our local 8 th grade science fair. There were about 23 important or prominent people from the community as judges. No one said anything about my kilt, nor did anyone ask any questions. The only thing that happened was a lot of giggly girls pointing and telling their friends. I wore the Buccleuch, green hose, and my sporan.

Then this Saturday I went to the local builders show with a friend of mine (Shane) and a friend of his, (Tim). Shane has always admired my black Survival Utilikilt and so I thought this would be a good time to have him try it and his friend Tim could also wear a kilt. Shane I believe went regimental, but Tim didn't. Tim wanted to wear his jeans under the kilt, but I wouldn't let him. When we first got out of the car, Shane said, "Ohhh it is windy. Did you see anything?" I said, "No, it feels worse than it looks."

First some comments. The first guy that said anything wanted to know what the occasion was. We said we just like to wear them because they are comfortable. Then he said, "No, what is going on, why do you have on kilts?" Again we said again that they are comfortable. Then he replied, "But why the kilts?" By then we just walked on and left him very confused.

In talking to a lady I know that was working one of the display booths, she said, "OH, that wasn't you, another guy in a kilt just walked by a little bit ago. I never did see who it was. I thought it might be Nick from this forum, but saw him later and he hadn't been there.

Some little kids got wide eyed but didn't say anything. One did in passing, but I didn't hear him, so didn't stop to talk. I probably should have.

We then went to WalMart. One guy asked if we were all Scottish, and we said no, only Tim. He actually has a famous Scottish background, which I will have to find more about. Another guy said, "Ahhhh, pipers and drummers!" I guess kilts = that, but not this time!

Then to top it all off, 3 girls about 16 - 18 came up to us as we were going into the check out line and one said, "Excuse me, could we have our picture with you, we have never seen anything like it!" The 3rd girl took a picture with her cell phone and us 3 guys were in the middle with a girl on each end.

The picture of us isn't the best. I am on the left and I was talking, and I see it was taken before I had notched my belt once more to make it tighter to hold up the Mocker Utilikilt. I let them borrow my kilt hose too. Shane has a belt with "bullets" as he is skinnier than I am and "his' kilt wouldn't stay up. Tim wore "his" kilt "under his belly" but we did get the sporan on this "Scottish" lad. I had to use some chain that Shane had as my sporan strap didn't fit him

Later in the day, Tim asked me why we had to wear kilts to the builders show when no one else did. He was just up here from Texas, to Michigan and I guess he thought it was what we do. haha But I told him that Shane has always wanted to try my kilt, and this was a good chance to do so. And it was fun. Note the cat wondering what is going on.
