Which reminds me of Dendrology 322 a million years ago in a land far away... the teaching assistant stopped us all in front of a tree and said "quiz tree - write down the genus, species, and common name."

After we'd all turned our answers in, he turned to one of the class members (who was down from Canada on a hockey scholarship) and asked him "OK, what's the tree?"

His reply (after a lot of head scratching) was "Black Walnut?"

After we all got up off the ground (where we fell laughing) someone decided to give him a hint "Try the tree on your Nation's Flag!"

Yep, it was a Sugar Maple.
