And yes, I can understand how having a swatch of one's tartan would be very useful; perhaps might even be worth budgeting to have an extra yard if the kiltmaker is willing...

I believe that Rex was simply saying that Barb sent all the unused pieces of tartan, as she has always done with me, and I would suppose every other client. This is more than enough to send out for colour matching purposes. So why would other kilt makers not do the same? There really should be no reason at all to order an extra yard.
