And yes, I can understand how having a swatch of one's tartan would be very useful; perhaps might even be worth budgeting to have an extra yard if the kiltmaker is willing...
Ted
I believe that Rex was simply saying that Barb sent all the unused pieces of tartan, as she has always done with me, and I would suppose every other client. This is more than enough to send out for colour matching purposes. So why would other kilt makers not do the same? There really should be no reason at all to order an extra yard.

I was thinking more on the lines of repair of the kilt and that type of thing. I don't know that every run of a tartan is an exact match to earlier runs. Also one might have other uses like waistcoats etc.
I agree that the left over fabric should be included with the kilt though.

I am getting so close to ordering. Maybe when I get my Gordon Blue Modern kilt

Rex, thou art king indeed. May I never have to enter a room after thee, whenst thou art so splendidly attired.
In awe,
Vincent

A lot of kiltmakers will include the scrap tartan if the client specifically requests it, but not everyone does as a matter of course. Why not? Well, we keep a scrap box at the museum and have several ladies who love to come in and get bag fulls for quilt making and other craft purposes. I've talked with other kilt makers who have similar destinations for their scraps. But most all are happy to send the client any scraps if they ask. So the moral of the story is -- ask if you want the scraps!

Fear not NancyMan! Just make a tithing of a vodka and cranberry and I am sure that his Highness will deign to allow you to bask in his presence.
Cheers

Sorry ... have to be pedantic as I've seen the error oft repeated on this forum when discussing royalty (Cincinnatian or otherwise). "Your Highness" and "His/Her Royal Highness" are the form for addressing princes and princesses. "Your Majesty" and "His/Her Majesty" are the form for addressing Kings and Queens!

As Hamish still draws breath I think it might be just a tad inappropriate for Rex to usurp his title!
Cheers
