I think some of this stuff is like some of the silliness you see on the fashion runway. I can't see an appropriate occasion for some of these kilts without looking completely out-of-place. (Even as much as I might have personal issues with contemporary kilts, those still have a place in casual wear). The gardener or the tails and whichever others that come down so horribly low below the knees don't seem to belong anywhere. Maybe a club or something?
I don't buy the line that things like this get young men into kilts. Most guys I know would be driven away from the thought if this was an introduction to the kilt.
