LOL...well if he was, I would have locked his heels...Sergeant Major or not (I've gotten to a rank where I could do that and get away with it...assuming, of course, I had good cause to do so).
Edited to add: Your post got me questioning/wondering...what does the RRoS Regulation say...so I just looked it up: "The bottom of the apron should hang one inch above the center of the knee." That sounds like the top of the kneecap to me. I may have been 1.5"...but at any rate...he would still be "incorrect" if he were attempting to hold me to the military standard...which to my knowledge is the ONLY place we will ever find a written rule for how to wear one's kilt.
Thanks all for the comments and playing along here!
SaxandPipes...those offwhite/ecru hose are the pair that David Pope gifted me about a month ago when I put out a call on here to rid some people of some off-white hose that were taking up space in their drawer. He had several pair of hand knit hose and sent them to me to pick the pair that I liked/fit me best. I'm deeply indebted to him. As he said "If you have to wear white/off-white hose (which was our specified uniform), you might as well wear a pair of quality hand knit ones."
Jock...I will look up the thread that you have referred to. Look forward to reading it. As others have said, I don't think there is much one can do to change the mind/opinion of a guy like this. It's hard to educate people that already know it all. I felt like telling him that I'd see his Scottish expertise and raise him five other Scots who would give different answers...but again...I just politely (if somewhat sarcastically) thanked him for his opinion and told him that I was quite comfortable/happy with the way my kilt fits.
