    It's gotta tag on it?

I don't know if its the picture, but it looks really small. Is there a way to close it? I don't see buttons or even ties.

    Any pics of the rear?

It must be the picture. I guess it would fit a 36-38 which would have been a reasonable Medium back then. Ref the buttons - see para 2 of #4.

Yep, and the inside but that's not the point of the question. There's one very obvious feature.

It has a tie down for the upper half of the plaid on the left shoulder. Sorry, I don't have a better name for it.

Heath I remember something similar in this picture of Rob Roy. These are the only two examples of this I have ever seen other than the contemporary ones you see now on jackets.

    Got it.

There is a double loop on each shoulder; one at the arm edge and one at the neck through which the tie, which buttoned close, could be worn. It was to take the upper portion of the belted plaid so negating the need for a pin and thus damage to the jacket and plaid.

Any chance you might have a close-up/"detail" photo, of the left shoulder, showing details of the loops and tie ) and buttoning)? I'd like to try that, on a jacket I have planned. I think this would also be useful for wearing a "Day Plaid"

Unfortunately all the buttons were removed from the jacket at some point so we don't know whether the one on this strap was flat of round (ball).
