Re: Show us your Vintage Kilt Photos
Here's an interesting one...
I avoid all the "play dress-up" photos I come across, sticking with gents who are obviously accustomed to wearing Highland Dress.
This one's a bit on the edge to me. But all in all I think this fellow actually owns and wears what he's seen in here.
Note the unusual capbadge, evidently two clan badges merged.
And it's another example of the dark civilian spats.

Now with these gents there's no question that they own and regularly wear what's seen, some Kilberry pipers. I just wish that the image was clearer.
It's an interesting view of what ordinary pipers wore back in the day.

And here's a faded gent.
I can't help but note that one sees very often, in vintage photos, wing collar shirts, long neckties, tweed, and long hair sporrans being worn together.

Re: Show us your Vintage Kilt Photos
Here are some more...
This sporran is stunning. Note the small pillbox-like bonnet, often seen in The Highlanders of Scotland.

The photo above and the photo below show the style of jacket so popular in the latter half of the 19th century. Note how it is cut to swing open in front, and that the skirts/flaps/tashes are in line with the front edge of the jacket. Below is Captain Forbes.

The photo below, of an officer of the 78th, well shows the very large wide mid-19th century military sporran. Extremely interesting is that his red & white dice hose have plain turnover cuffs, which previously I had seen only in the uniform of the 79th New York 1858-1861.

Note the very large sett size below, and the pointed cuffs, rarely seen in Highland Dress (but seen in The Highlanders of Scotland, and still worn by The Atholl Highlanders)

Here is an early image, a stereo probably from the 1860s, in the very years The Highlanders of Scotland were painted, showing similar dress. I love the warlike pose! Note the tall Glengarry, in the style of the 1840s.
