    Since I'm up at 1am with nothing to do, I can't resist this thread..

    Is that a kilting selvedge on the right?

    The threads look thick, would this be a heavy weight tartan?

    The weaving also looks uneven. The red bands run thicker and thinner in places. The vertical red stripes on the left almost look separated within the 3 count. So, possibly woven on a home or primitive loom?

    And, don't go 'And so?' with me...I have no clue. ;)

    Now we're. You're actually looking at the piece which is truly the object of the exercise.

    Given the answers in bold the and so questions are the further deductions or questions to ask to flesh out those ideas.

    Quite possibly. As it's only a scrap without any folds or sttitching it's impossible to say how it may have been used.
