other random patterns
Besides camouflage, can you think of other more-or-less random patterned cloth that might be able to be made into kilts?
Solid colors....good.
Camouflage ..... good.
Anything else?

Paisley! May not be wholly random, but it might present a fun challenge to pleat those sh***y little amoebas!

Argyll pattern. I once tried to make a kilt on the bias as an experiment. The cloth was just way too stretchy on the bias (which I knew it would be, but I still had to be thick-headed and try it for myself). It was really a neat look, but wouldn't work for a kilt b/c of the stretch.

Shibori
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shibori (絞り染め Shiborizome?) is a Japanese term for several methods of dyeing cloth with a pattern by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, compressing it, or capping. Some of these methods are known in the West as tie-dye.
You could dye some cloth yourself.

How about tie dye? A tie dyed kilt might look pretty awesome, especially in the pleats.

A quick search on shibori-dyed kilt turned up this...

They've got over-aprons, they're got under-aprons. They've got pleats, they're tapered in the fell, they close with straps. Those are kilts, gang. But WOW. WOW

Re: other random patterns
wonderful thread , but where to start! just a few to start as I'm in a hurry to get out this morning, but as a kiltmaker I am very happy to experiment with all sorts of fabrics, either tradiitional or not, so I have just found the first few that might be interesting.
