So what got you interested in the whole kilt thing? Family heritage? Trying to rebel againest the social norm? Or do you just want to look cool? Just curious how others arrived here.

Lots of stuff attracted me to kilts over the years.
A love of the pipes above all else I suppose. Admiration for the bravery of Scots through the ages, Sterling Bridge, Bannock Burn, Culloden, The Thin Red Line, the Charge of the Scots Greys, and assorted other encounters. A youthful adiction to Robert Lewis Stevenson, Robert Burns, and Sir Walter Scott just added fuel to the fire.
As a kid, no one in my family took part in any Scottish Heritage groups. We just knew we were of Scots, Scotch-Irish, and English descent on Dad's side of the family, typical Southerners you know. But as I got older, I made friends who were active in the Caledonian Society, that fanned the desire, but I still didn't get a kilt, mainly expense and lack of infformation on tartans.
More recently, another friend ordered a UtiliKilt and sparked lots of humorous discussion and friendly ribbing. He intends to wear his new kilt to a CSA Rendezvous this Fall. I decided he ought to have company.
I'd really prefer a traditional tartan kilt, but again the expense is a problem. Guess I'll have to keep saving nickles and dimes until I can afford one in the Hudson or McDonald tartan and settle for a solid color or generic plaid.
