How about logging in the "Off-Season Training" thread?
    Thanks for the reminder Alan.

I've been walking and doing a little bike riding, that workout was harder on me than I expected.

Expect an update on Saturday. As my DOMS go down, frequency will go up. I'm hoping for two gym days a week and one throwing day.

I didn't know there was an off-season training forum. If the mods see fit, please move this thread.

    Re: Triskaidekaphobia - Joshua's Training

Actually, the Off-Season Training thingy is just another post in this forum. A couple of us have been posting our workouts or training there. Kinda just bouncing ideas off each other.

Speaking of which, it's a good thing to heed what your body is telling you. If you're ready to lift again, you will. If you're still sore or feeling puny, better wait another day before lifting again. We all have at least on more injury in us but we may not have one more recovery.

Didn't you mean triskaidekaphilia? Always wore the number 13 on my team uniforms and such as well. Dunno why, just seemed to work out that way. Check out this website...Triskaidekaphilia.org

I think the guy who made the website experienced a run of bad luck. There's basically no content.

    Re: Triskaidekaphobia - Joshua's Training

My own personal opinion.....anything out of the ordinary, counts. Did you go for a five mile bike ride? Log it. Whenever I go on a hike around here, I log it. It might not make it here on the "Off Season Training" thread, but I log it at NASGA.

There isn't a special "off season" forum, just an ongoing thread here in the Athletics forum. It's a pretty good cross=section. Yeah, we don't have pro's logging 600 pound deadlifts, but between o1d_dude and myself, you have two pretty good Masters (and 01d_dude has been at this for a while, now). eclarkhg is new, but comes from a very athletic background including some shot put. If we could get GGGP to log, that'd be cool too. Newbie chick logs workouts. I know what her general workout routine is, but she could tell us more. DetroitPete is pretty good at this stuff....we need to get him to log, too!

    Re: Triskaidekaphobia - Joshua's Training

Kip - I'm pretty sure that triskaidekaphilia is a different thing all together (think of the difference between necrophobia (fear of) and necrophilia (obsession with)).

    Anyway...

Been bouncing off the walls today, during a work-from-home day.

For my "lunch break" I did about 15 kettlebell clean+squats with a 30kg (66lb) kettlebell, 25 goblet squats with the same kettlebell, and tabata pullthroughs. Done in 15 minutes. Heart.Pounding. Eating lunch now, grass-fed porterhouse...

My back is not well conditioned... I took it easy due to some rounding at the bottom end of my squats. I need to go lighter if I am going to fix it.

    Re: Triskaidekaphobia - Joshua's Training

    Working the "sore" out today.

1.6 mile walk in 20 minutes, sparked by a couple of 50-yard sprints with the puppy.

3 mile *very leisurely* bike ride in 40 minutes.

I think besides another mile of walking tonight, I'm going to take it easy today. I'm gonna start a pot of chili, the wife is gonna chop off my hair, I'm going to take a shower, and then a nap. When I wake up, CHILI POWERUP!

Nothing wrong with a 220 powerclean!

Yeah go light and pretty for a while in the squats to remember how to keep your back straight and firm up that core.

    Good work!

    Re: Triskaidekaphobia - Joshua's Training

Tues-Thurs got the bike out and rode a few miles a day. One day I made two, 3 mile trips, the next I made a 3-mile trip early and a 7 mile ride in the evening.

Today I did nothing, the sky has been menacing all day. Tomorrow I need to find myself a gym, tonight, a birthday party for a good friend.

Can you believe I JUST saw this?

Josh, sorry you're having trouble getting into games. My first year was like that. If you can come up north, we usually have room. Besides, with solid B numbers like yours, I can't understand why there's a problem getting in.

Ugh--to Alan's prod of my workouts--They are starting back in earnest right now. March is a pain: Squats, deadlifts, dumbell presses, more squats, box work on the bad knee, kettle bells for the shoulders. The 'fun' part is hammer swings. Cardio (eliptical, heavy bag) and NO laughing--yoga. I'm 46.

April--all about total confusion: Squats, dumbell presses, deadlifts but adding tire flips, boulder carries for time and distance, stone practice, I also have a HUGE hill at my park which I climb up and back with half a caber carried across my shoulders, heavy bag, cardio, yoga.

May--more practice less lifting. I still keep squats, deadlifts and shoulder work, tire filps and boulder carries, yoga. But now it's all about throwing. Games for me start in May.

I'm not a hardcore lifter or trainer by any means. At my age and size, my goals are to finish the year with limited injuries and a LOT of fun. Because of blood pressure and glucose issues I can't eat to gain and kill myself moving iron around. I have to find a balance.

Today was fun, but I'm already feeling it... seeing as I rarely squat anymore, I'm going to feel this tomorrow real good, even if I did jump into a cold pool for 10 minutes afterwards.
