I was born and raised in Montgomery County, Md. MoCo borders DC (the best museums in the world) The Potomac river(fishing and boating and hiking) Frederick County and Prince Georges County. 18 years ago, My wife and I decided to leave the comfort of Montgomery County and move 60 miles north to Carroll County, land of My mother's family.
I would not leave Maryland. We have the best of all worlds. To the west, the Blue Ridge Mountains. To the east, Ocean and the beaches. Of course, we are still close to DC, but Baltimore has its pros and cons. 3 hours to Philly, 5 to New York. We have the Northeast Corridor for travel North and south by rail. Housing prices are low now and there are plenty available. We are close to govt contractors and with BARC, Fort Meade are is growing.

Be it ever so Humble, there's now place like Home. Maryland Is Home.

But if I win the lottery tomorrow, I'm moving to Austria.
