That looks terrific. I wonder how it would look with a red stripe.

This a 12 inch sett and assuming "standard" sett is 7 inch how would or would there be a difference in the depth of the pleats.

As has been said you did and excellent job.

Ordinarily, it would mean that you would get fewer, and deeper pleats. That is, if I pleated it the usual way. What I did with this kilt, however, was to pleat to the broad black stripe, which occurs twice per sett repeat. Therefore even though the sett was 12" I was able to pleat it as if it were a 6" sett, meaning I was able to put in twice as many pleats as I would have otherwise with the same amount of cloth.

Very nice, Matt! I have always admired the kilts of several Macphersons I know that have an enlarged sett in the Macpherson 'hunting' and Chattan 'modern' tartan. I love the look of an enlarged sett, but I am not so sure it would be aesthetically pleasing for certain tartans.

Like Gunn. Or possibly Morrison. :-)

I have many Morrison Green swatches but I haven't found one I just have to have, until now. There are several elements that make this tartan more interesting. First, the selection of a darker blue and a lighter green adds contrast. This along with the sett size increases the contast and size of the green guard or separator stripes so they are more easily seen. In the modern version it is very hard to see these stripes.

If I understand correctly the Morrison rendered in a similar fashion would have two horizontal red stripes all around and two vertical red stripes on the apron. Pleats would look the same or could be pleated to alternating red and black stripes (not sure if this would be cool or just weird).

I'll be glad to discuss the details of a similar Morrison kilt for you in a large sett. Why don't you email me at matt@newhousehighland.com and we can talk about the particulars.
    Aye,
    Matt

Well my kilt arrived yesterday while I was walking out the door to go to work. Needless to say, it was a long day at work. Despite USPS doing its best to destroy the box, the kilt arrived looking great. Here are two pictures of me in it. Unfortunately, the lighting and my camera are not the best...

    Thanks Matt!

Looking good! The large sett comes across really well, and it looks like we got an excellent fit. I hope you enjoy it for many years.
