I had never heard of MOD Cantles before joining this board. I assume it stands for Ministry of Defense? Can anyone link me to some history on these beautiful sporrans? (Searching for MOD on the forum doesn't work as it's under 3 characters. I did try, though.)

When faced with a case like your search for MOD, try searching 'MOD +cantle' (removing the quotes of course).
This works on ebay as well. My fave there search is 'kilt -hose -pin -mini -bagpipe.'

It looks like 'MOD +cantle' just gives results for 'cantle' but 'Cantle +MOD' does the trick. Thanks!

    Harold, allow me.
The Mkl model is the latest you have purchased, with the silver metal dimples and the pull up, latch spring, opening.
The MKll model is the all brass cantle with the push down opening catch
The MKlll model is the same as the MKll bur silver plated
The MKlV is all brass with the push down opening latch but with smaller dimples on the front and slighty thinner brass used
The MK1 bags were held on with 5 nipples on each side of cantle frame and the apart from one I have seen on this forum, the other models generally had 4 nipples on each side of the cantle frame
The first were issued in 1953 in order that there was uniformaty in the Highland ranks for the Queens coronation.
I cannot say for sure as to when the last were made, but issue bags for them were being made in 1968.
On ebay I see a number of the MKlV's incorrectly being advertised as MKll's

BTW Congratualtions on obtaining one of the MK1's Harold, I await to see one of your bag creations on it

This will probably be the worst jones I have ever had for a kilt related item. LOL Hopefully it will get here soon.

For some reason I cant ever recall seeing a photo of an MKIII in use.

Thanks for this again, Downunder Kilt. I always get the order in which they were issued goofed up.

Congratulations, Harold. that's a real beauty. Any specific plans for it yet?
