I presume they mean that June 24 is the actual REAL date for the 700th aniversary and the three day shindig in 2014 is a few days later? Does not fill one with confidence for next year, does it?

Right, Jock! 23 & 24 is the anniversary dates of the battle in 1314. The Re-enactment battle dates are the 28, 29 and 30th of 2014.

aah, yes. On the ticket page, it goes on to say:
700 years after Scotland’s most famous battle, experience the biggest ever re-enactment of the Battle of Bannockburn at Bannockburn Live.
The National Trust for Scotland’s three day spectacular takes place on Saturday 28, Sunday 29 and Monday 30 June 2014 and, as well as a brutally realistic re-enactment of the battle, features an array of themed villages, where visitors can enjoy everything from Scottish food and drink to sports, crafts and literature, exciting outdoor activities, an action packed children’s programme, a main contemporary music stage and more.
See, taste, smell, hear and discover medieval life in the historical encampments, then watch Robert the Bruce and Edward II lead their armies to battle at Bannockburn Live.

It will be one of many exciting events running as part of Scotland’s Year of Homecoming

Sneaky, sneaky! They tell us the battle is on the 28th, 29th and 30th. My guess is they'll attack at dawn on the 24th!
