I shouldn't think you would incur any negativity if you wear your kilt.
There is a saying here in Scotland that the kilt is a garment worn only by Scots while they are visiting America and worn by Americans while they are visiting Scotland.
I am a Scot living in Scotland and I wear a kilt regularly and for several years I wore a kilt almost every day. I have been approached by people a few times and asked if I am American, but never in a disrespectful way. Scots will be pleased to see our visitors from the diaspora honouring the Scottish heritage.
