Weekend before last a group of us attended the Drink Good Beer Fest in Long Beach.

Attendees got a 5oz glass and 10 tickets, each ticket good for a fillup at any of the 30 or so breweries represented (all local Californian). What with trying each other's discoveries and occasional freebies I must have tried 20 or so different beers, my focus (until the point at which focusing on anything was impossible ) was IPAs.
Then last weekend I got a flight of six local IPAs at a local GastroPub.
The winner for me was the Coulter IPA from Cismontane Brewing Co. Anybody tried it?

Not really true. There is always an imitation "Irish Bar" around and most of them have a good draught beer or two. There's a franchise around called "au bureau" (which means "in the office") which is not bad, also. There are some good beers around, you just have to look for them.

While I am a fan of the Guinness,
My favourite would have to be Granville Island Brewing's Kitsilano Maple Cream Ale int:

I always drink local. But I have the good fortune to be in a city with lots of great local choices. My favorite is Brewery Vivant, which is located in an old funeral chapel, and brews with a Belgian flair.

Right now it's Cobblestone Stout from Mill Street Brewery in Toronto, smokey and dry.

Sheaf Stout anyone? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-G0pPWHupqt...0/DSCN6817.jpg
In all honesty, Guinness tastes a bit weak and watery in comparison.

I recently tried Bell's Special Double Cream Stout. I'll be drinking it instead of Guinness when it's available.
From the website http://bellsbeer.com/brands/12-Speci...eam%20Stout%20
Special Double Cream Stout derives its name from its smooth, creamy texture, not the ingredients. Completely dairy-free, this stout blends ten different specialty malts to yield a remarkable depth of flavor. With only a touch of burnt notes, Special Double Cream Stout focuses on the softer, cocoa & espresso-like aspects of roasted malt.
Alcohol by Volume: 6.1%
Original Gravity: 1.075
Shelf Life: 6 months
Dates Available: Winter
