For a non Canadian who loves lives and breathes hockey I believe the maple Leaf Tartan also symbolizes a specialness with the Canadian game best played on 200'x 85' rinks and championships decided in sudden death overtime. The fortitude of Bobby Baun and the passion of guys like Paul Henderson, and the work ethic born on farms and factories displayed in 4th line muckers and grinders.

I like how the page on the Maple Leaf tartan suggests that wearing it is "proudly identifying yourself with the country of Canada," which allows for even non-Canadians to get in on the action as fans of Canadian-ness, embodied in hockey or otherwise

It looks like a good time was had by all! Thanks for the photo, Glen.

By the way, I have to say that I really like the phrase (by the gouvernment of Canada), quoted by Colin earlier in this thread:-

"When wearing a tartan you identify yourself with what the tartan represents."

A sharp looking group of kilted Canadian gentlemen.

I was kilted yesterday and while I was in Picton, Kitchener and Toronto (and a long stretch of the 401), didn't see another kilt on Tartan Day!

Don't forget the fine looking kilted Canadian gentlewoman in her Maple Leaf tartan skirt!

Here's another pic that turned out a bit grainy... I doctored it and sent us back in time
