    Tobus,

What color of goat are you going with? I am thinking black. And of course straight not curly. Scott said it would be December before he could get to it. So I thought that I would give it a try since I was thinking of wearing it for my wedding in September. I found an old thread of yours and copied it down for a pattern. Out of curiosity why wouldn't you think that the pattern wouldn't work for a goat hair sporran?

Oh, I don't know if it will work or not. It might. But it was a rather large bag, and the hair will make it appear even larger. I've never built a hair sporran, though, so I'm not quite sure how it would need to be scaled in order to accommodate for the hair factor, while still being a pleasing shape and proportion to the cantle.

I haven't yet pinned down the final details of how I'll have mine built, but I'll be going for that shaggy, 'dirty white' mohair look that's reminiscent of the MacLeay portraits. This is one sporran that someone else posted, and I like the looks of it. But obviously, with a brass MOD cantle. I like the yellowing of the mohair, and might actually prefer it to look a bit dirtier than that one.

Here's a photo of me with a couple of MacLeay's portrait subjects (I was goofing around one day with photo software). I really like the one on the left, though it's a bit on the extreme side of the 'dirty' look. I haven't yet decided whether I'll want tassels on mine, but I'm sort of leaning that way.

Brian, Good luck with your project. I'm interested to see how it turns out. Like Mike, "I do love the goat hair".
