    Ah, found another bit! This is a piece of the section taken from the back of the left arm. Judging by the style of the writing I'd say that this was removed pre-1850, possibly as early s the late 18th century.

    Looking at details of the coat there are some interesting little features. I can't work out the two linen thread features are. The one on the left looks like a button type fastening but there's nothing to fasten. Nor are there similar adornments one the other side. Thoughts anyone?

    Peter...to my eye they look like button holes, with dangling thread where the buttons are missing, the upper piece being a pocket flap.

    They do appear to sort of line up beneath the button holes in the pocket flap, but they seem too far down; if there were buttons there, and you put them into the button holes in the flap above, it seems like it would pull/scrunch the material up in an ungainly way.
