I have been thinking on this and honestly do not wear a kilt in a non-traditional manner very often. The only real non traditional way I wear the kilt frequently is just with a simple tee-shirt when lounging around but feeling like wearing the kilt. I normally still wear hose, sporran, etc. in a more traditional manner.
This past winter, for a party we hosted for a football (American) playoff game, I decided to try something a bit different and more contemporary. I have not worn a kilt like this since, but here is a photo...
