A query for the ladies

I think a man clad in a proper tartan kilt worn properly looks fantastic! Provided he is a Scot and the kilt is being worn in Scotland.

I am afraid that I can only look at men dressed in kilts(civilians) outwith Scotland and particularly non tartan kilts, with mild amusement tinged with sadness.

I find men who are self-assured, confidant and well put together in a kilt to be very attractive. Prince Charles, Sir Sean Connery, and my guy are three examples of this with three very different styles.

Self-confidence looks good on every one and I think that it takes a bit of self-confidence for a man to wear a kilt. I love tartan too and I like to see men that are concerned with their appearance and that like to be "well put together".

I like the air of mystery when my man wears his. Though I worry when he goes out in it, especially if it's windy.

The colours are nice, and he's very confident to wear it out and about, despite comments from kids in 'the hood'.

I don't like the fact other women try to chat him up when he's wearing a kilt.

I find his pinstripe kilt suit disgusting though.

The kilt in general is beginning to grow on me, I hated it at first and wondered where this was heading, until he showed me this forum.

A man in a kilt that fits properly (not worn backwards or SIDEWAYS(!!), hits about mid-knee and not too big or small in the waist) looks amazing when worn with confidence and his own personal style. I love seeing husband wearing a Doctor Who T-shirt with one of his camo kilts and boots with chunky socks -- and from the response he gets from other people, men and women, I'm not the only one. I don't even mind when he gets chatted up by women -- just no touching, please. The confidence thing that can come with really enjoying wearing a kilt is the part that's so sexy.

Don't wear white socks with a kilt -- even if they are billed as kilt socks. Actually, if you're older than 12, don't wear white socks outside the gym. I can't really think of anything else I don't like about kilts.

I was surprised when husband wanted one but I'm Scots on my mother's side and have a husband with great legs so I was super supportive. Now I think he looks strange when he wears pants. I wish he'd started wearing them sooner so he could have worn a kilt at our wedding.

I personally feel that a man who is willing to wear a kilt, especially outside of a festival has to be pretty sure of himself. The main man in my life who goes about kilted is my son, and he is 11. I love the fact that when his 5th grade class went to the symphony on a field trip and were told to wear "best dress" he immediately went for his kilt and vest.
He said only one kid razzed him saying "Hey, skirt boy! When are you going to tap dance?" To which my son replied "As soon as you learn the difference between a skirt and a kilt! When you wear one of these, you dance around swords."

My salutation is not just one of mere convention or cordiality, but one I find rather fitting of most men thoughtful enough to don a kilt; i.e, you are more often than not gentlemen in the truest sense. You take pride in your appearance, which I find rather sexy of any man, but you do so in a manner that is not typical of most men. It seems that most of you regard your kilt wearing with a sense of honor and pride which represents either your heritage or respect for a tradition that few appreciate.

When most men dress, they can throw on a shirt, jacket a pair of pants or shorts and call it good. Business wear? Upscale the look -- unless it is on of those "dress to impress" days in which a little more thought is put into selecting just the right tie. Weekend? whatever goes. Maybe my husband is a special case (along with Panache, who sets a standard that my dear hubby is known to emulate) but when he dresses, he is thoughtful of his appearance and making sure that his kilt and accessories are well put together. Even when mowing a lawn in a casual kilt, he still wants to look nicer than the average fellow out conquering the landscape. As his wife, it puts a smile on my face.

And when in public, when complements come his way, as they often do, it is rather nice to think, "Ya, he's all mine, ladies!" (Of course when the "skirt" comments come out, I grow fangs and froth at the mouth.)
So, I guess what I like most is that I'm appreciative of men who are not cut of ordinary cloth. I appreciate their demeanor, appreciation of history and tradition, care in their appearance and respect of the finer things in life. I realize that there are those who only wear kilts on special occasions, but for you gents who don kilts on a a somewhat regular basis, you've got my utmost respect and admiration.

And I suppose, since I've focused only on you proper kilt wearers, I should add that I can only hope that the wannabe "posers" in ill fitting, too long, improperly worn kilts will decide that being bifurcated is much more suitable to their personalities.

Then, Mrs. Jock, do feel welcome to look at me, being a civilian, a non-Scot, a man not living in Scotland, and sometimes also wearing non tartan kilts the way you describe.

I hope, my thoughts do not show though! But, should you care to ask me face to face the question that was asked here, my reply will be much the same as the one I gave here. It would be dishonest to do otherwise.
