My people were from Ayrshire as well. One day, when the kids are older and perhaps show interest, we'll cough up the $$$ to have a run woven. I have yet to see it in the Internet wilds...

USA Kilts have Ayrshire Ancient listed as standard tartan, if that's of interest to you.

Thanks for asking this! I had the exact same question. I had no idea what the protocol / etiquette was with wearing a tartan other than that of your clan. Looks like the Ayrshire will be. Y next purchase!

Yes USA Kilts has Ayrshire in House Of Edgar 13oz wool, very nice kilt fabric.
I also noticed Auld Scotland and Auld Lang Syne, two more "universal tartans".
Auld Scotland is particularly lovely. I first saw it in this photo of a display at Lochcarron.

According to the book "Scots Kith and Kin", Barr is most commonly found in the Ayrshire district. If you were in our shop, we'd suggest that tartan to you.
