Been wearing a kilt almost daily for the last three weeks, yesterday night the whole family went to Fair Haven for the annual 4th of July parade. Its a fairly large parade particularly for such a small village. One of the Syracuse Highlands marching bands showed up, they must not have expected to see another kilt there as a number of them kept looking my way. I was wearing my purple clergy kilt, tomorrow we all head to the Sterling ren faire where I haven't decided on a kilt yet. I think I still have an old shirt from when I worked there 20 years ago.

I didn't wear my Kilt this Friday as it was too hot (30 degrees, which I know some of you will consider a moderate day), however I was asked about my kilt length in an open and honest way. I replied that whilst my wife thinks the top of the knee is too long I am ignoring her as a kilt worn too low looks really terrible on short guys like myself. I explained that I had learned how to wear it "properly" from a load of Americans and a very knowledgeable man in Inverness (thanks Jock).

I explained, tongue in cheek, that in a time where most women covered themselves up from ankle to neck a man exposing a little bit of leg was "man porn" , whilst I was only joking I think there is still a little bit of truth in it and that includes the present day.

A nice day for wearing a kilt to work today, warm but not too hot. A soldier doing some strenuous exercises stopped and commented loudly (he was a fair distance away) " that's a good look ". I was quite taken aback that he had taken the time to stop what he was doing and comment so expressed my thanks.

I was a little unsure if the colours would work as there were a lot of greens and blues, but thought I would give it a go (excuse the skewed sporran).

I have christened this my seven seas look as I have dived in waters which are the colours shown, including the brown sporran (that was not a good day). Some maroon hose are in the post so I will be mixing it up a bit more in the future, there are also lovat blue as I don't have blue socks.

Today I wore the Black Watch kilt I recently made for myself. I wore it to pick up 34 meters of Black Watch tartan from Marton Mills. Marton Mills is about an hour and a half from where I live. The tartan will be made into kilts, piper's plaids, and drummer's plaids. It'll keep me busy for a while.

    Beating the Heat!

For this Kilted Friday, I wanted to dress for a hot humid summer day here in Virginia. It was going to be a scorcher! I selected a USA Kilt casual in Malcolm tartan, a seer sucker shirt, cotton hose, sans sgian-dubh and flashes, desert boots and a plain L&M sporran. Cool!

At the gated community of active adults were I work, I was chasing away a gaggle of Canadian geese from the Clubhouse when one of the ladies going to swimming aerobics inquired about my “kiltedness”. She learned about Kilted Friday which lead to conversation on Scotland, Highland Games, genealogy and DNA testing. Later another conversation with a contractor about the kilt and a compliment from a lady saying I bet you are cool in that! Aye, lass!

    A good Kilted Friday.

Yes you do look cool in that, though i have to admit my red hose are reserved for Red Hot Chilli Piper concerts. SWMBO wouldn't be seen any where near me in them at any other time.

If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

To each their own @tpa! I do like to wear my stuff and not keep it in the drawer or closet where it would be if reserved for any band performance.

I enjoy the bright splash of color matching the stripes in the Malcolm tartan with a subdued background of dark green and blue. I have a turquoise pair and a yellow pair of hose for this kilt, too.
