I am impressed by the simple, traditional wear of kilted highland attire these two exhibit. I am particularly drawn to the classic Balmoral of the red-headed, long haired chap on the right, and the basic- though functional- sporran of the gentleman on the left.

To be honest though, I am always pleased by most public wearing of the kilt I see. I'm not bothered by the odd wearing of attire at sporting events- odd behavior at sporting events seems to be common!

Though occasionally- like you, I'm sure- I see attire I'd rather not have seen.

Remember that, in reality, "Team GB" is Team Scotland - all the players (male and female) are Scots so there are a number of Scots supporters.. The men were knocked out by the Swiss but the ladies are now in the semifinals. Also note that the girls' skip (Eve Muirhead) is an excellent piper.

(I suspect the "red" hair may be a wig!)

Aye, a bonnie multi-talented lass, she also holds the golf course record at her local Pitlochry Club and plays or used to play off a handicap of 2. I guess she's a wee bit competitive.

Yes, she featured in a curling calendar a few years back - some shots rather risqué.

I think she would prefer this picture. Muirhead tartan, I believe. Sorry about the white socks and ghillies!

Very interesting! She sounds like a modern-day John MacColl.

He began competing (on the Highland pipes) and was so successful that he gave up his job (as piper to MacDonald of Dunach) and for the next 25 years was able to support himself and his family on his earnings from competitions and teaching.

He competed in the dancing and athletics as well as the piping and it was said that he could make 40 pounds a day at the Games which was as much as some people earned in a year. (This is the 1880s and 1890s.)

He won the Gold Medal for singing at the Mod, played shinty for Scotland, football for a district team, and was a champion golfer.

He bought a yacht with his prize money, entered for the races, and of course won.

Indeed but even the "Team GB" is a misnomer, because competitors from Northern Ireland are eligible to compete and that country is part of the UK, not Great Britain. So it should be "Team UK".

Te Scots, though, do have a superior talent for this fascinating and strategic game, far greater than the rest of the UK.
