Isle of Skye (seconding David's suggestion) is readily available and just gorgeous---the computer display does not do it justice.

There are many other attractive non-clan tartans, in regular production or available by special order.

The USAK tartan finder is nice for browsing, but dauntingly comprehensive... i.e. it would take some time to see them all! Scotweb (clan.com) likewise: if you have a starting point, you can select for fabric content, weight, and other characteristics. Some of the mills have nice displays:

    https://www.lochcarron.co.uk/strome-tartan/

These links are both for heavy-weight wool, other weights/fabrics are there. Happy hunting!

You could look into the Scottish Wildcat Tartan

I would also say Isle of Skye is a good choice

The traditional MacLeod tartan (a blue & green tartan with narrow yellow and red lines) looks fantastic in Weathered colours:

The yellow Allen Brothers' MacLeod (one of their several three-equal-stripes tartans) wouldn't be my choice on both historical and artistic grounds, though being in Weathered colours would tone it down quite a bit.

BTW the Allen Brothers titled their creation "MacLeod" (well actually 'Mackleode' and 'Clann-Lewid') with no of-anything suffix.

(For those not aware, some Allen Brothers designs:

I have to agree - I used to own a company called Trinty MacLeod and use the weathered tartan as part of its trade dress - I still have some business cards with this on the reverse!!

For gun bunnies there is an artillery tartan called Fires, or at least has Fires in the name. It is worn by a pipe band at Fort Sill, so theire might be yardage available. It is a bright tartan when compared to all the others mentioned above.

Bright, indeed, and a pretty nice one, too: the 77th Army Pipe Band (Fires). It would suit the brief of being lighter & less "heavy" looking than my #1 kilt.

I believe I found it here:

    https://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/ta...ails?ref=12062

However, it looks to be restricted "[f]or the exclusive use of members or former members of the 77th Army." That ain't me, so I won't tread on their playground.

    Thank you for the pointer.

    Cheers,

    Jack
