Here's a nice looking black day sporran with the gold "Made in Scotland" stamp on the back. No strap, but it seems like a good deal for the price anyway. Looks like the AZSF shape with floral stamping.

And another, a used McRostie (!!!) brown day sporran including strap. Probably one of the prettiest contemporary day sporrans I've seen pop up on eBay.

    Cool!

It's interesting about the various stamps.

Most often one sees the little 5-petal flowers, which sort of look like the Tudor Rose. Sometimes the "petals" are more pointy like stars.

Then there's the so-called "bulls-eye" or "goddess-eye" pattern which has been around since the stone age.

Oddly the least-often seen are thistles.

I just now put together this collage of these designs:

Upper left: STM Nicoll Brothers Bankfoot
    Upper right: BF unknown maker
    Lower left: unknown boy's
    Lower right: Forsyth

The stamps generally appear on the BF and STM styles.

BTW the distinctive thing about the AZSF pattern (which has been around since at least the 1930s) is the distinctive Celtic knotwork stamp:

Very true, I should have added half as much as an antique shop would have it listed for

Here's a bit of an oddball, but at a good price, anyway. It's a black, fur-front sporran with chain tassels and studded flap, made by Piob Mhor. Definitely a unique look for someone. $45 +shipping.

    ebay

Hope y'all get what you are after. A couple of years ago I got lucky. There was a practice chanter that was listed as (R Henderson Grasgrow German musical instrument) the buy it now price was $50. So I bought it. As I thought it had to be a Peter Henderson. I was right, for once. It was an old chanter made of cocus wood and ivory mounts. It plays beautifully. So keep looking you just have to be there at the right time. good luck.

    That's a very handsome sporran!

Personally I'd prefer the tassels to be matching leather, as they would have been in the 1920-1970 period, before the makers started putting Evening tassels on Day sporrans.

BTW the sporran stamped Piob Mhor would have been made by Nicoll Brothers.

Piob Mhor (Blairgowrie) was established in 1974 by two Australian immigrants. In 1983 Nicoll Brothers (Bankfoot) was acquired by Piob Mhor, and sporran making continued in the original Bankfoot shop.

Nicoll Brothers were dissolved in 2007, and were acquired by Margaret Morrison.
