Welcome from a Scotsman living in the English midlands. I would endorse the view to read lots before making a choice. In the end day, if you would like a good quality kilt, and can afford it, do go ahead - no reason why not.

I have often transited through Amsterdam Schiphol airport kilted. I've encountered other kilted Scots there also.
