Second Visit to USA Kilts
I made my second trip to USA Kilts today, 27 February:
94 miles, 1 hour, 37 minutes on a sunny morning here in PA.
I picked up my Argyle jacket, my kilt in Modern Kerr, ghillie brogues and a kilt pin.
I also ordered three swatches from MM:
Pebble & Dunlin CGE 164
Moorland & Coffee CHE 287
Dunlin CGE 299
The Moorland & Coffee is my favorite of the three.
Excellent customer service once again from Jayse. And I am delighted with the kilt, crafted by Sophie. Thank you, Sophie.

Dave
did they sign the tag or did you find out who made your kilt because you picked up in person?
I don't remember who made my Sterling Blue semi-trad, but it was featured in one of the short videos going around the shop floor to see the current production.

It was on the sheet I received with the kilt.

Congrats!
Congrats on the new duds! Modern Kerr is very vibrant and should look great!
I love the E Pluribus Unum kilt and the tweed Argyle set I got from them in January, great quality!
One note before you wear it out too many times: If your jacket and vest were off the rack be sure to check the buttons! They traveled 1000s of miles from Scotland and mine had 3 that were loose. "A stitch in time saves 9" and it's not uncommon for off-the-rack suites!
USA Kilts was great! I grew up just minutes from there and it wasn't until I'd been away for years before I even found them!

Your USA kilts "pilgrimage"

By the way, I followed your links to flickr. Nice shots of the shop and what you looked at. I don't use flickr (or take as many photos as I should). Can one add captions (for example, in your photos from the swatch books, what tweeds and tartans you're highlighting)?

As always I'm envious of the people who are able to make that pilgrimage.
There's nothing like being able to see the sample-books in person.
My journey is a bit further https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Tust...oASAFQAw%3D%3D
I'm struck by that photo with Kerr (modern) at top, a tweed at centre, and a lovely version of Kerr at bottom.
I may have missed it, but what mill and colourway is that Kerr? It's beautiful and reminds me of some of the old Wilsons colours.

I've said it before, but I was surprised not just by the large inventory carried by the store, but also by all those swatch books (and Ian's familiarity with their contents), and also by the obvious "do the right thing" attitude of of everyone I met there when I did the drive from NYC during my visit last April for the Tartan Day Parade and some time with my son and his wife in Queens.
Sadly, too much "stuff" going on here in 'Vegas for me to make it to NYC this year, to say nothing of the drive out into PA. But, later in April, we'll visit friends in Northern California, and I'll detour a bit on my return to SFO for a stop at Wm Glen & Son, where I commissioned MY first kilt (and perhaps, where my Dad may have had his created).
One of my goals for that visit will be to see and touch five-yarders vs. 8 yarders as I contemplate making my next kilt from Glen Affric (and my next Argyll from one of those brown shades that could blend with everything here in Las Vegas), or, if I can find enough people who spell their last name the same as I, perhaps a kilt from Wilson's "Robertson Red (white line)" which (in photos, at least) looks far more attractive to me than what's readily available. But that means recruiting a BUNCH of people willing to participate in reaping the results of a custom weave.
The other reason for the stop at Wm Glen will be to see if I can educate my palate a bit. I've done two Whisky tastings, one at Glenlivit, the other at games in Hamilton, MT. I'm not sure whether I could tell the difference between the sweetest Speyside and the peatiest from Lagavulin, but on the Wm Glen website they lay claim to having the largest collection of Single Malts from Scotland on offer anywhere on the American continents.
But, there WILL be two days of Highlands games only 5 miles from my new home in 'Vegas next month, and I'm excited about that.
