    Considering a tweed kilt

For some reason, I've been hearing the sirens call of a tweed kilt in Holyrood. Many of the images in my search are of the same ones getting recycled by different websites.

Any members here have one, and if you do anything you would have done differently, say weight, pleat choice, five yard vs eight, etc.

    Thank you in advance

Tweed is not what it was, I am told, so it might be alright these days - I have a length of the antique type in my stash somewhere, and rough as a badger's proverbials is the correct description.

Before considering a purchase, I'd advise checking that you'd want to let that particular fabric get close to your skin.

My new (to me) Marton Mills Stewart Hunting Weathered (thank you, OCRichard) is tweed.

My observations: it's softer than most weeds, is a bit lighter weight feeling than my equally weighted 16 oz worsted wool kilts, but can seem a bit warmer since the fabric is not so tightly woven as worsted. In spite of being quite soffit's a bit scratchier than worsted but not so much as other tweeds.

    You're very welcome Padre!

(Also welcome was my shrinkage which made that wonderful kilt too big...)

I loved that tweed so much. It's so...different to normal kilting cloth (either 13 or 16 ounce).

The "hand", the feel, of it is unique. Whenever I wore that kilt I'd get compliments and inquiries- most people have never seen a tweed kilt.

And tartans just look better in tweed. The Holyrood is gorgeous.

Here it was, Padre's Hunting Stewart Weathered in Marton Mills tweed:

It's definitely my favorite and unless I follow your good example and need a smaller kilt in the future, the others will probably just stay on their hangers.
