I simply happened to be at the Council's site shortly after reading the thread, and noticed the Viking Technology name at that site. When I looked at Viking's site, I saw that they had built a Tartan Finder etc., but found no actual links to retailers.
If you follow the link in my post, you'll see multiple links to Web sites that are "owned and operated by Viking Technology Ltd., Glasgow, Scotland." That's a direct quote from their "About Us" page on the sites linked.
Viking Technology is a mass retailer - a large impersonal company with an eye solely on the bottom line and NOT your satisfaction, despite what they claim in the sales-speak bullsh*t section of their Web sites. As with any large, impersonal business, sometimes you're lucky and come away satisfied and sometimes you don't.
The problem with an impersonal business is that they care little about little customers. If there's a problem, you're probably not going to get much help. Just pray you have no problems and go right ahead and gamble your hard earned money on goods you can find elsewhere from merchants that do care, who have their heart and soul in their businesses and are willing to work hard to earn the right to fairly claim a proud reputation, unsullied by the kind of careless customer service typical of Viking Technolgy-owned Web sites.
Fair warning given. Now make your own choice.

Scott Gilmore
