Your gonna be hard pressed to find a higher quality kilt for $40ish unless you luck out on ebay.

OR make them yourself from a good buy on fabric.
    I'd use Barb's book.

Panache, what is the solid black Stillwater like? Is the "shadow tartan" visible? I don't like the look of the solid kilts, but already have one in the blackwatch tartan. If the pattern is easy to see then I will probably end up getting that one after the holidays. Otherwise I may set money aside for a while and try to get a 5 yard USAKilt .

    Corvidae,

In the Black, the "Shadow Tartan" only shows up in certain light. In the Green (which is sitting in my wife's closet until X-Mass) the "Shadow Tartan" is very apparent always. I believe the Heavyweights are about 6 yards and 13 oz. wool (not sure but if you email Jerry at sales@stillwater.com he can give you the details.) I haven't seen a SWK Saffron in person. Between the Black and the Green I'd recommend the Green. They have lots of pleats, a nice swish, and they represent a good value.

My SWK Hunting Mcleod Tartan Standard Kilt (With Michael Steinrok who I believe is wearing a SWK Irish National Standard)
