When I first wore my kilt (first day my OD green UK arrived) it was to Wal-Mart. My wife had no idea it had arrived and was meeting me there. She was furious and I had butterflies in my stomach like crazy... I mean c'mon... a kilt in Texas? Well, I got through Wal-Mart with not much other than a few wayward stares and the eyes of my wife boring a hole in the back of my head. The next couple of times I went out kilted I was nervous for a few minutes... but after that all was well. Now I don't give a rip what people say and/or think -- after all it couldn't be worse than what the close-minded people at my work/church say every time I wear it around them (or mention anything kilt related)... I'm comfortable, proud, and big enough to make sure no one has a problem with that...
There is one place I still like to gauge reactions at... We have a convenience store about a mile down the road and I go there often in the kilt... I live in what is probably the first bit of rural outside of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex on the east side... My wife likes to keep tabs of the comments and stares I get as she sits in the car waiting on me to grab the coke or whatever I was going in there for... The girls that work there see me in a kilt at least once or twice a week and still ask me what's up with the skirt. I guess I've blown their rural Texas minds so much they just can't get over it...
