Very true Katmills. Over the years even in Scotland here, Ive had nothing but good remarks from the ladies from teens to well any age. The few stupid responses have been from young lads who seem to think it makes them big to pass a quick remark like Donald wheres yer troosers. The funniest thing that has happened to me wearing the kilt was in Glasgow one time. I was walking into the St Enoch shopping centre(mall) when 3 male teenagers shouted the usual stuff. 2 girls standing by came over and took each of my arms, shouting back to them' at least he knows how to dress himself properly which is more than can be said for you lot'. They quickly shut up. After a few polite exchanges 'love to see a man in a kilt, what tartan is it and do you wear it a lot they were on their way. Even said they wished their boyfriends would wear kilts more often instead of just the usual weddings.
Made my day anyway. From experience, the female population in Glasgow will defend a man wearing a kilt to the end.

You can get a very negative response in England too. I remember a couple of years ago being invited to the Mayor's reception in the town where I work. I went along in my kilt outfit (as always) and one of the women councillors asked "Why are you wearing a kilt?". I said "Because I'm Scottish" and she replied "Yes I know that, but why are you wearing a kilt?". Hello?!!!!!!

Trying hard not to comment .......
That's a well made point Mike and something to think about.

I would have replied "why are you a councillor?"
The logic (or rather lack of it) is the same!

Strangely enough I get more comments on my Inverness capes than I do on my kilt. I can almost guarantee a "Mr. Holmes" comment everytime...even if I am wearing a kilt.

Swap the deerstalker for a Balmoral or Glengarry

Intresting story, I was eating lunch with my mother and neice. Got ready to leave(I was kilted of course) and as I was walking out the door a young boy of maybe 8 held the door for me. I said Thank you he returmed your welcome(I do live in the south you know ) I went on and got in the car. No big deal till my mother came out and got in also, she said that little boy pulled on his dads sleeve and said did you see that man he's Scottish and wearing scottish clothing. To which the dad replied personely I think he's gay, to which the boy replied no dad he's scottish. See he's wearing a kilt.
True to form I never hear those kind of comments to my face.
The mind of a child is a wonderful thing. They seem to call things like they see them.

That 8 year old boy was smarter than his Dad.
