I have a bit of personal experience with this and can say that losing weight is a worthy goal and satisfying accomplishment. At your target weight you look better and feel better and clothes fit better. But often, despite our very best of intentions, the weight ends up going back on... sometimes with a bit of surplus.
I suggest considering a slightly less risky approach. Give yourself a bit of "breathing" room by having your kilt built 10 - 15 lbs or so above your target weight. Then when those nasty pounds start to sneak back on the waistline, that beautiful kilt won't be condemed to the closet next to the pink shirts until the next diet!
