Saw this fella at a kirkin today. I thought at first he was a sofa and almost sat on him.

Actually, take a look at Morier's painting of a Highland Charge at Culloden, and you'll notice a number of tartans being worn by the same person:

You will also see kilts and jackets made from the same tartan during this period; Hugh Cheape's Tartan: the highland habit has a nice illustration of this, if I remember correctly.

Would I wear something like it? Probably not, but it's not necessarily 100% wrong, as Nanook stated -- there is historical prescedent for it.

    Regards,

A combat jump while kilted?! For safety's sake, I'd call it a DON'T:

What a wonderfully flamboyant kilt-suit. A bit overdone and perhaps "too much of a good thing" but I may also wish to note that he's the only one whose clothing fits. The keyring around his neck and name tag are too part of the look.. Anyone who can show up at what looks to be a less than formal convention dressed like that just MUST have a good sense of self-irony.

It would look better if the tartan on the doublet was cut on the bias (diamond shape). It would be more authentic as well. However, I must say he looks great !

I'm not sure if he reminds me more of Don Cherry or that guy on the Canadian tire money (sorry both canadian references)
