My brother's doublet doesn't fit him any more, but it was always, too hot, and you're unable to open it up to cool down. In Canada, most functions are inside during our winter, or in summer, outside. For many of those functions, you'll find the doublet, too warm, and you'll be unable to adjust for temperature.

Honestly I have rarely found that to be true. Granted I rarely wear it in the summer (I have summer weight formal jackets) but inside during the winter I haven't had trouble unless it was so warm that everyone was uncomfortable. The only reason I can think of is that it only requires a t-shirt underneath as opposed to the multiple layers with a PC.

Granted if the conditions are too warm then you can't take off layers like others can and I think knowing that can make you more uncomfortable. I will admit that as much as I like it I wouldn't want it to be my only choice as a formal jacket. However, I go to so many that it was worth the investment in more than one style and I only use the doublet for the dressiest ones.

The only way I would suggest someone get a Doublet as their only formal jacket is if they know they will only be using it for very dressy events preferably in the cooler months.
