I'm also one who won't wear this tartan. Personal choice. But, I must say you wear it well and if it's anything like the Irish Saffron I received from SWK last year, it's surely a quality kilt. Thanks for sharing the piccies.

I really don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but that is NOT the Black Watch tartan. It appears to be half of the sett, if that makes any sense. This may not be a big deal to you, but as a Grant myself, if I was getting a kilt in the Grant Hunting tartan I'd want it to be THE Grant HuntingBlack Watch tartan.

It's a nice looking kilt nonetheless.

I would be interested as well. I have three separate Black Watch Tartan articles (two kilts and a flyplaid) and looking closely at the Stillwater site for a clear picture of the tartan it looks the same as these three. There seem to be a varying range of colors. The colors in the wool of my Black Watch economy kilt from the Celtic Croft are more mmuted and seem to blend in with each other so the black stripe is very difficult to discern while the scottish handsewn one is very bright and distinct. The SWK seems to fall somewhere between in terms of these colors values (but that could also just be my monitor. Also I thought that the size of the sett is always going to be different depending on the weaver. Is this maybe the difference?

Ok. Here is a picture of the Black Watch tartan from Lochcarron in the Braeriach material.



Notice the blue squares alternate with 2 black lines in the center, then two sets of two black lines at the edges.

Notice that the blue squarea only have the two black stripes in the center.

Some of the colors and lines in the darker modern tartans do not show up well in photographs.

The Black Watch Tartan has a single set of double black lines in one line of blue and a double set of double black lines in the next blue sett, look at the top photograph, you can barely see the double black lines.

There does appear to be a difference in the pattern.

I thought you were refering to the blue squares surrounded by green versus the green squares surrounded by blue.

Either way, nice kilt. The BW is the only one I own right now, but I'm hoping to get an Irish National from SWK before March 17.
