Maybe it's just my reactionary nature, but I would ask her "You have heard of Scotland, haven't you?" I would then explain that the kilt is part of my heritage, and insulting my ancestors was not the brightest move, as she was also insulting her grandson's ancestors. If that didn't work I would suggest to her to look up the words "tact" and "self-control" in the dictionary.
