Your Mother dressed you funny.
My mom used to dress me. By the time I reached the 3rd grade I was getting a bit of an attitude about what I wanted to put on that day. When the 4th grade came along, all that was left for her to say was, "Keep your jacket zipped up against the cold." In the thirty years that followed until I rebelled again, there were numerous others, too many to count that would tell me what to wear and when.
I will wear my kilt when and where it suits me. You will abide in my autonomy AND have no recourse to alter my wardrobing choices.
I'm pissed that I've let so much of my self regulation be influenced and/or usurped by outside self-declared authority on who could/should/would wear specific clothing.
Go, have fun, don't work at, make it fun! Kilt them, for they know not, what they wear. Where am I now?

Yah, but it spawned a whole mindset of social rebellion for following generations... Long hair and loud colors for men, bra burnings and the feminist movement, free love, racial protests, peace marches.... etc...
a generation of young people that made it acceptable to speak up and be different from the previous generation. Up until that time, Previous generations demanded and got conformance from its youth.
I suggest that
I will wear my kilt when and where it suits me. You will abide in my autonomy AND have no recourse to alter my wardrobe choices.
shows the same demand for change and acceptance as the decadent, look alike ^%#?@* hippies.
I can't disagree with your sentiment on that point.
....
Peace Man!

I was never a Hippie
I started the 70's in the millitary, got a job, quit my job, owned a photo studio, quite the rat race, became a Ski Bum, taught Drug and Gang kids to X-county ski and live in the back country for 16 yrs, at night I managed a pizza Co., then 10 yrs. ago I started a handyman co., 1 year ago I started to wear kilts and still don't remember part of the 70's.
