Yes, Panache, but disrespect is disrespect. This woman is working at poisoning this child against his father by saying things like "I'm so sorry they put you in a skirt." It sets a bad precedent. If that kind of thing spills over into other areas of life it can later really undermine parental authority. While I don't necessarily recommend my reactionary confrontational stance, the grandmother should at least be reminded that the parents of a child are the ones who make the decisions, not the grandparents, and those decisions should be respected not ridiculed.
